Let's see. Things to talk about today: did a massive amount of VB. Caught up in fact. How about that? It is fairly easy at this point so I guess I am lucky. Gibbs will be gone most of this week and next but alas still tons of assignments. Already know what I will be doing next Sunday afternoon. Welcome to my wonderful life. Did I mention Monday afternoons are exclusively Oracle time now? Me and Dustin got that down already. At least I don't have math anymore.
NWN continues to absorb absurd amounts of my time. I have lost a fair amount of sleep due to it. I continue to blame Lars for this. It's all his fault! Yes it is :P However the game is quite enjoyable although the dang traps still kill me if I'm not careful. Druids to some extent are sissies especially ones whose Constitution is a 9!
I was paging through Kingdom of Halta yesterday and read up on the loss of the Tepet legions (incidentally there is a lot of new material on them, there is stuff in AB: Air too). Now it didn't occur to me til today but considering the number of people who died and comparing it to the number of Celestial Exalted (Solars, Sidereals, and Lunars of which I think at least one Lunar was present not sure) plus Second Circle Demons the proportion is insane.
Let's consider. Two Sidereals whipe out the capital city of an entire nation (a minor one granted, but probably as powerful as the average Hundred Kingdoms nation) all by themselves. Consider also the nasty way they did it (I figured initially it was by some charms but this makes more sense): Cantata of Empty Voices (30 motes) Celestial Circle Spell; This spell summons a choir of crystalline voices, whose tones bring agony and death to all those within earshot, liquefying their brains within their skulls.
Nice stuff eh? That is the first paragraph of the spell, if you are familiar with Exalted mechanics, it deals 1L damage per turn soakable only with stamina. So mortals, even heroic, are dead within 7 turns of hearing the Voices. Most of them are dead in 3. Now granted a starting Solar sorcerer is barely going to have enough Essence to be able to fuel this spell and it's only going to last at max 4 rounds but still that kills every non-heroic mortal within earshot which can be a fair distance. We are talking a huge amount of killing power in the sorcery far beyond anything most other games start you out at. Consider D & D at Level 1. You can barely fight anyone much less wipe out an entire city. Pretty much all the D20 system games are the same and just about all the other games I have read are similiar. BESM has the potential to be that destructive but even then it's not real likely.
Collecting my wonderful thoughts here. I am attempting to put together and run a high XP (1000+) Exalted game. If low level Exalts are capable of such destruction just imagine what high level ones can do. Scary isn't it? I think when I run the game, morality of the players is going to be as much an issue as actually saving Creation. Because if everyone is dead, who have they saved Creation for?
